New Dawn

“You probably pissed it off, for not calling it ‘Ser’.”, Klagas taunted Malvian, who look confused. “Well, let’s just get back to work so we can –” He was interrupted by the starting engine of the shuttle. Slowly, the vehicle lifted off ground by only a few meters, turning around to face the drill.
“What is he doing?”, Malvian asked, but before Klagas could answer, they saw the main gun, beneath the cockpit turn on.
“Run!”, Klagas shouted over the shuttle’s engine sound. Right after the two ran to the site of the drill, the ship started to fire upon the drill. The machine exploded with a loud boom, sending parts of metal flying, and darkening the sky with black smoke. A second salve was fired, and a rumbling followed suit. The scavengers hid behind a trunk, laying on the red dirt ground. When it was all over, the two looked up, only to see their ship land again. Where once the drill stood, was now a gaping hole, leading into the promised land. Malvian just stood there with and open mouth, while Klagas started to enter a furious rage. His equipment was completely wasted by the droid’s actions. His beloved multi-drill only rumble.’
“I am going to deactivate that droid by throwing it done the next best cliff!” Angerly, the stomped towards the shuttle door, from which the droid remerged. But before the Sabrak could let loose, the machine pointed a blaster rifle at him.
“Friendly reminder: Do not do anything stupid now. Unlike your friend, you are no longer needed for the progress of this mission.” Klagas held in, lifting his hands, and slowly backing away.
“Hey, we’re fine. Just don’t point that thing at me.” Malvian did not notice their confrontation, as he was already gathering up some remote droids from the trunk.
“Your friend needs your help.” The droid sounded distinguish superior, but Klagas had nothing to fight with. So, he simply surrendered and went towards Malvian, who was already sending the remotes into the dark cavern.
“He has a weapon.”, Klagas calmly said to his partner. Malvian looked puzzled.
“I don’t think this is only about money anymore.” The droid was slowly approaching them, as Klagas picked up some lights.
“Next best chance, we get to the shuttle and leave. We already got half the pay.” He was right, they did receive half their price in advance. Something, that normally never happens, even with the most affluent employers. It gave Malvian an idea, how rich their benefactor was, and Klagas a bad feeling from the beginning. And now, the two were trapped here, in the middle of nowhere, with a psychotic, armed droid and only a dark, ancient tomb to enter.
“You’re right.” Malvian agreed. “Let’s play along, see what’s in the cave. Maybe we even get away unscared?”
Klagas was not as optimistic as his friend, but as the droid started to shoo them into the dark. They had no other choice.
