Prologue

The Land of the Gods

“The following text was translated from the historical legends of Meridian scholars, as they are considered the oldest and only records of the first two eras:
‘Once upon a time, before the beginning of time, people came to Meridia under the protection of the immortal Old Gods, led by the eternal Pantheon; Ten of the most powerful and wise of the Old Gods. They brought the people and their kind out of an era of suffering and conflict before time itself into the promised land: Meridia. The Land of the Middle.
The Pantheon ruled over the Old and Mortals, and they acted out their will through Ten High Priests, who soon became the direct rulers of mortal men. Peace lasted forever in this place. Mythical creatures walked as living legends and stories among the mortals. Magic and knowledge nourished them, and the inhabitants of Meridia built many wonders without worry of illness or suffering.’ “
